Controlling Mobile Robots and AGVs with SAP

Yes. FlexGuide4 communicates with mobile robots and AGVs from various manufacturers via the VDA-5050 standard. For robots that do not support VDA 5050, the Vendor Connector is also available. At Diehl Controls, 7 MiR robots are controlled, and at KNOLL, 3 Safelog AGVs are controlled, all via the same system.

Yes. FlexGuide4 was designed from the ground up as a mixed-fleet solution. KNOLL operates 14 forklifts, 2 tugger trains, and 3 AGVs using a system with an error rate of less than 0.1%. Brose combines AGVs, forklifts, and tugger trains at more than 17 locations worldwide.

FlexGuide4 is natively integrated with SAP and works directly with SAP EWM, SAP MM, or SAP LGM. Transport orders are generated in SAP and transferred to FlexGuide4, which assigns them to mobile robots, forklifts, or automated guided vehicles (AGVs). Status updates and confirmations are automatically sent back to SAP. No middleware, no manual posting.

Both options work. Since Release 2.5, FlexGuide4 has also supported a direct SAP MM connection. This allows companies without SAP EWM to control their mobile robots via FlexGuide4 and manage transport orders directly from SAP. Starting with Release 2.15, SAP LGM has been added as an additional system.

Yes, sensors, gates, traffic lights and elevators can be connected via the OPC UA interface (since release 2.8). At Diehl Controls, FlexGuide4 controls multi-level production logistics across 2 floors, including elevator control.

The costs depend on the scope of the project (number of robots, manufacturer, SAP landscape). As a reference: Diehl Controls expects the investment to pay for itself within two years. KNOLL reduced the number of conveyors from 10 to 7 while improving process quality. You will receive a specific quote during your consultation.

The Vendor Connector (since release 2.8) is available for this purpose. This allows you to connect robots to FlexGuide4 that do not natively support the VDA 5050 standard. This keeps your fleet flexible, regardless of which standards the manufacturer has implemented.

FlexGuide4 immediately marks it as uncontrollable and does not assign it any new tasks. Its traffic management restrictions remain in place to prevent any other robot from entering an area where it might still be moving. Furthermore, if a robot is controlled manually, its safety distance is automatically doubled.
