In use at Diehl Controls, KNOLL and Brose

Your AGVs drive –
but past SAP?

If driverless transport systems operate without an SAP connection, you lack transparency. FlexGuide4 controls AGVs from all manufacturers directly from SAP, VDA 5050-compliant, as a mixed fleet with forklifts and tugger trains.

Why FlexGuide4

AGV control that is at home in SAP

No middleware patchwork, no data islands. FlexGuide4 brings your driverless transport systems to where your logistics data lives: in SAP.

Manufacturer-independent

MiR, Safelog, KUKA, Jungheinrich, Linde: control AGVs from different manufacturers via one system. VDA 5050 v2.0 and v2.1 or via Vendor Connector.

Mixed fleet-capable

AGVs, forklifts and tugger trains in one fleet. One control station, one set of rules, one SAP connection. Just like at KNOLL: 14 forklifts + 2 tugger trains + 3 AGVs.

Full SAP transparency

Every transport order, every status, every acknowledgement, live in SAP. No shadow IT, no manual postings. Also for SAP MM, not just EWM.

Fast commissioning

LiF import (VDMA standard) for automated layout upload. Start Wizard for easier initialization. Brose rolls out new locations in a few days.

Area Traffic Management

Area-based traffic control instead of individual route logic. Route planning directly in the layout editor. Space priorities for capacity bottlenecks.

Scalable

From 3 AGVs at KNOLL to a worldwide rollout at Brose with 17+ locations. Template approach: configure once, deploy everywhere.

FlexGuide4 Release Highlights

What FlexGuide4 can do for AGVs today

Continuous further development, an overview of the most important innovations from the latest releases.

VDA 5050 v2.0 + v2.1

Full support of the current industry standard for manufacturer-independent AGV control.

Vendor Connector

Robots without VDA 5050 support can also be connected to FlexGuide4 via the Vendor Connector.

OPC UA interface

Sensor connection via OPC UA, for data exchange with gates, traffic lights, elevators and other peripheral devices.

Area Traffic Management

Area-based traffic control instead of individual routes, more intelligent route planning, less congestion on the hall floor.

LiF import (VDMA)

Automatically import layout files in VDMA standard, drastically faster commissioning of new locations.

SAP MM connection

Not only for SAP EWM, customers with SAP MM can also use FlexGuide4 for their AGV control.

SAP Integration

Seamlessly integrated into SAP

FlexGuide4 is not an isolated solution, it is an SAP-native extension for your transportation logistics.

SAP EWM

Direct connection to SAP Extended Warehouse Management. Transport orders, confirmations and status messages in real time.

SAP MM

Can also be used without EWM. The SAP MM connection enables AGV control for customers with classic materials management.

SAP BTP / Cloud

Cloud-ready with improved SAP Cloud Logging. Modern architecture for on-premise and cloud scenarios.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ: Controlling AGVs with SAP

Yes, FlexGuide4 communicates with AGVs from different manufacturers via the VDA 5050 standard. For robots without VDA-5050 support, there is also the Vendor Connector. At Diehl Controls, 7 MiR robots are controlled, at KNOLL 3 Safelog AGVs, each via the same system.

Yes, FlexGuide4 is designed from the ground up as a mixed fleet solution. KNOLL operates 14 forklifts, 2 tugger trains and 3 AGVs via one system with an error rate below 0.1%. Brose combines AGVs, forklifts and tugger trains at 17+ locations worldwide.

FlexGuide4 is natively integrated into SAP and works directly with SAP EWM or SAP MM. Transport orders are generated in SAP and transferred to FlexGuide4, which handles the assignment to AGVs, forklifts or tugger trains. Status messages and confirmations flow automatically back to SAP. No middleware, no manual booking.

Both work. FlexGuide4 has also supported a direct SAP MM connection since release 2.5. This means that companies without SAP EWM can also control their AGVs via FlexGuide4 and manage transport orders from SAP.

It depends on the complexity, but FlexGuide4’s template approach drastically speeds up the rollout. Brose brings new locations online in just a few days. Functions such as the LiF import (VDMA standard), the Start Wizard and the Layout Transformation further shorten the commissioning process.

Yes, sensors, gates, traffic lights and elevators can be connected via the OPC UA interface (since release 2.8). At Diehl Controls, FlexGuide4 controls multi-level production logistics across 2 floors, including elevator control.

The costs depend on the scope of the project (number of AGVs, manufacturer, SAP landscape). As a reference: Diehl Controls achieved amortization in less than 2 years. KNOLL reduced the number of transporters from 10 to 7 while at the same time improving process quality. You will receive a concrete offer during the consultation.

The Vendor Connector (since release 2.8) is available for this purpose. This allows you to connect robots to FlexGuide4 that do not natively support the VDA 5050 standard. This keeps your fleet flexible, regardless of which standards the manufacturer has implemented.
